As centre of excellence maximum training facilities are provided to the staff and students of this Institute at 4 star and 5 star category hotels. Thus bringing in professionalism in academics on par with operations.

 

Specialisation: 

            This institute  is  one among the 6 (six) institutes   conducting  B.Sc. Degree Programme in H&HA with specialization. 

Infrastructure:

This Institute has various departments  fully  equipped  viz. separate kitchens for  I Yr, II Yr, III Yr, Craft, Diploma and other courses;  Training Restaurants I & II, Bakery  I & II , Housekeeping I & II, Laundry, Front Office Lab.,  Computer lab.,   Library and adequate class rooms.  

Staff Training: 

Staff Members have been sent for training periodically arranged by the Institute according to Govt. of India, Ministry of Tourism instructions and to be abreast with the changes in the Hospitality and Hotel Industry thus bringing professionalism, modern technology and academics at par with operations.  

Hostels:  

Separate Hostels  for Boys and Girls with an intake of 140 and 45 for First Year B.Sc.  respectively on sharing basis in the campus itself.  

Students Group Insurance: 

All students are covered by Group Insurance scheme by National Insurance Company Limited under “Vidyarthi – Medical Insurance”  on payment of nominal charges over and above the NCHM fees to cover the Hospitalisation charges during the study.  

Medical Checkup:


                Medical checkups done  by Red Cross Society are held twice a year to identify any physical problems as a prevention so that all students in the Catering Industry handling food and coming in directly with the guest may be in good health.

Blood grouping:


                Blood grouping is also done by the Red Cross Society which is indicated on the Identity card for the purpose of any emergency.

 

Attendance:
                According to the norms of the National Council for Hotel Management, New Delhi all candidates admitted to the various courses will be required to put in a minimum of 70% of attendance in each subject and overall 75% attendance during the academic session.  Students failing to secure overall 75% attendance shall be detained from appearing in the Annual Examinations to be conducted by the National Council.  The Principal of the Institute is empowered to condone upto 10% of absence on medical grounds or for any other valid reasons.  Such requests in writing should however, be accompanied by leave letter / medical certificate issued by any registered medical practitioner immediately after the sickness / valid reasons for absence. 

 

            This will be strictly adhered to, to ensure maximum learning by attending classes, academic proficiency and to acquire good results.

 

Identity Card:


                The students are given identity cards at the beginning of the year which they have to preserve it with utmost care which is to be used while in the classes and for other benefits outside the college for membership in other libraries, students concessions, internet etc.

 

Concessions:


                Local train and bus concession are provided for all the local students. Out station students are issued with concession for their travel during Winter/Summer vacations only.

 

Locker facilities:


                Locker facilities are provided on payment of Rs.50.00.

 

Students Activities:


                Regular student activities held round the year to encourage the students to develop all round efficiency like various competitions, quiz, food festivals, fairs, seminars, conferences, workshops and other tourism oriented activities.

 

            Institute has play ground  with amenities  for playing foot ball, volley ball, cricket and indoor games  like table tennis  and gym facilities.

 

 

Canteen facilities:


                Sale of tea, coffee and snacks are carried out in the canteen at cost price for the use of staff and students.

 

Out door catering:


                The Institute undertakes out door catering and also provides personnel for out door catering services at different Hotels as nominated accordingly to encourage the students to develop their skill, situation handling, team work, execution, attitude and knowledge about banquet service in star hotels held for important and esteemed guests.

                Government Departments, other public and private organizations approach the Institute to take up out-catering for their official functions and this is undertaken as it provides training and avenues to earn revenues. Such revenue has helped to cover the deficit.

(a)   CHT Programme :

 

As organized by National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology,  Noida, and fully financed by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India   the 8 weeks’ 6th batch of CHT Programme (Certified Hospitality Trainer)  has been conducted at this Institute for the period from 18.01.2010 to 19.03.2010   for the  18  candidates   deputed by NCHMCT who have undergone 3-Year B.Sc. (H&HA) degree course under NCHMCT.  Necessary stipend has been  paid to all the candidates as per the guidelines. 


 

(b)  TRAINING PROGRAMMES UNDER CAPACITY BUILDING FOR SERVICE

      PROVIDERS OF MINISTRY OF TOURISM, GOVT. OF INDIA.

 

      Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India is sponsoring the following training programmes under     CBSP :

 

4 and 6 days Skill Testing and Certification Programme for professionals who are practicing their          respective jobs as Cooks/Waiters etc  without a proper certification,  are provided an opportunity to          earn a certificate from the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India by attending 6 days orientation programme in the Institute where the candidate is provided with a meal,  and  stipend of Rs.200/- per day or Rs.1200/- for 6 days.  This programme is conducted from Monday to Saturday from 1 pm to 8 pm.  5 days orientation classes will be conducted and on the 6th day skill testing will be done by external experts and certificate is given signed by Chairman/BOG.  This recognition would help such experienced service providers in finding mobility with their trade.   

 

Hospitality Training Programme   (Hunar Se Rozgaar) :   Hospitality Training Programme    in   Food Production (8 weeks/48 working days) and Food & Beverage Service  & Housekeeping (6 weeks/36 working days) is conducted for  candidates with atleast  a Pass in 8th std.  who are between the age of 18 and 25 years. This programme  is conducted from Monday to Friday from 1 pm to 8 pm.  While there is no course fee, students would be paid a stipend of  Rs.2,000/- for Food Production and Rs.1500/- for Food & Beverage Service  Course with a meal, uniform and kit. Upon attaining minimum 90%  attendance  and upon successful completion of the course,  a  test would be conducted at the end of course and certificate is given signed by Chairman/BOG.     These candidates are trained to provide man power to the skilled level in the Hospitality Industry.  The Institute will assist the candidates  for placement.

On this occasion Institute Annual Magazine “Sparsh -2010” was released.

 b)     Sports: Sports and cultural activities are integral part of our Institute.   During the year 2009-10  Institute have organized inter class football, volley ball, throw ball, table tennis competitions wherein he students have showed their sporting skills.

c)       Mediclaim: Vidyarthi–Mediclaim for Students  Policy  was introduced from  2006-07  to provide Health and Personal Accident cover to the students and continued  for the welfare of the students.  This policy covers Hospitalization expenses  and Personal Accident of the students.    Number of students were benefited.

d)         Outdoor Catering Services : Students have been deputed to various hotels, Air Force Station, Tambaram  for rendering  assistance etc. in their catering and other   programmes on nominal charges.

e)       Students have been deputed to participate in different competitions conducted by  Private catering colleges and have won prizes.

Activities of IHM-Chennai Alumni Association

 

IHM Chennai Alumni Association  have actively participated in the institute activities  by  way of sponsorship of events/donating amount/giving guest lectures to our students etc.

 

27.02.2010 -  Our Final Year students have organized  a one day FOOD FESTIVAL Pan Asian Panache - where the students presented an exquisite  display of cuisines  and carvings followed by Cultural Show.  Alumni of this Institute have also made their contribution.  

March, 20, 2010  – IHM Alumni meet was held at the Institute premises.  Alumni of  this Institute who are the General Managers, Executives, leading professionals,   were attended with their family  members and friends.  Retired staff of this Institute were also attended on invitation.
