The Institute is designed to train candidates at supervisory, managerial and lower skill levels in the principles and practices of Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office, Housekeeping, Computers, Financial Management, Tourism and Travel Management, Nutrition, Dietetics and Hospital Food Service and related crafts so as to provide qualified and technical personnel for the Hotel, Catering, Hospital, Travel and Tourism Industry, including training of catering personnel, at all levels , and for the Management of Industrial canteens, Institutional feeding programme, Hotels/Hospitals, Railways, Airlines, Shipping/Catering Institutes/Food Craft Institutes/ Govt. Guest Houses etc.  Besides these, the Institute caters to the needs of other areas where Foods/ Food Service are involved in different aspects such as Diets and Nutrition, Food Analysis, Quality Assurance etc.
